Inauguration of the memorial plaque at the Monseigneur Sencie Institute
On Sunday 8 September, in the context of the 100th anniversary of Vlaamse Leergangen/ASL, a memorial plaque will be unveiled at the Monseigneur Sencie Institute (MSI). This plaque highlights the significance of Flemish Courses/ASL and the pioneering role that Mgr. Sencie played in this. The inauguration will take place at approximately 11:45 and will be preceded by a lecture on Sencie by Prof. Dr. Emeritus Louis Vos (11:00).

Celebrating 100 years of ‘Vlaamse Leergangen’/ ASL
On October 29, 2024, it will be exactly one hundred years since the founding of ‘Vlaamse Leergangen’, presently renamed ASL. We will celebrate that day with an academic session in the Promotion Hall, Naamsestraat 22. On that occasion, Ruben Mantels' book on the history of Vlaamse Leergangen / ASL will also be presented. ASL is the publisher of the quarterly Dutch periodical 'Karakter ' a 'Scientific Journal'.

'Karakter' is a multidisciplinary journal on science and science culture. With this journal, ASL wants to contribute to the public dissemination of science and its critical reflection, both inside and outside KU Leuven. The journal addresses a broad and diverse audience.

Who we are

'Academische Stichting Leuven vzw' better known as ‘ASL’ is the continuation of 'Vlaamse Leergangen Leuven' who 100 years ago started lobbying for the installation of Flemish academic courses aside of the at that time uniquely French Université Catholic de Louvain.
